SUGGESTIONS
TOPIC *********** galing sa hirap

how do you find those adverts that used the "galing sa hirap" term for their basis?
some of the adverts consist of celebrities showing their support for that candidate, do you think that it's a must to catch the publics attention?
have you ever met or have known any of them by their doings, public background, reports and the like, if yes, do you think that their adverts fits them? if no, would you chose any of them by just looking for someone with the niciest theme?
what do you think is the best theme to use in any of those adverts?
it seems that the funniest and ickiest of them is erap's famed arthritis commercial if you're the one to make that, what would you use to tell the public that your running for president?

another idea
******************** 1. the ads communicate the message that their candidate is a saviour of some sort 2. visual elements are mostly the same — candidates mingling with ordinary people, distraught people, poor people, etc. 3. the ads highlight at least one all-encompassing promise 4. the ads end with a cheesy slogan 5. the ads are backed by a catchy song ************************* 1. Patriotism: The ad stresses the candidate’s love of and service to his/her country.
2. Gender: The ad presents the candidate as appropriately “manly” (or feminine) to make viewers trust him/her.
3. Family: The ad uses images of ideal families to give you a positive image of the candidate.
4. Excitement: The ad tries to create a sense of energy and excitement around the candidate.
5. Star Power: A celebrity is telling you that they support the candidate.
6. Bandwagon: The ad tries to create the impression that everybody already supports the candidate.
7. Put Downs: The ad insults the candidate’s opponent.
8. Facts and Figures: The ad uses facts and statistics to support the candidate’s policies.
9. Just Folks: The ad portrays the candidate as a “regular guy” (or girl).
10. Heart Strings: The ad tells a story that makes you feel good.
11. Sounds Good: The ad uses music (with or without lyrics) to be memorable, entertaining and exciting.
12. Cartoons and Animals: The ad makes its point with cartoon characters or (usually symbolic) animals.
13. Weasel Words: The ad includes promises that sound good but lack details.
14. Integrity: The ad tries to convince you that the candidate is honest and trustworthy.
15. Fear: The ad tries to frighten you into voting for the candidate (or at least not voting for his/her opponent).

ndi marami, actually lahat cla may "hirap" o "mahirap" term n gnamit
how does the "just folks" or "just an ordinary guy" term, which is used in these adverts influences the public?
___my violent reaction___

upon watching the past interviews of those aspiring candidates i found out that they all have a point to improve the quality of living in our country, henceforth they still have their own vested interest...
hope that after losing the election, the winner will adopt the good deeds that each of the candidates promised to the public.
i'm lookin for the one who's ain't afraid of voicing out his biggest failures and Mr. Gordon got my attention.
for the polical views for the philipines i admire Mr. Villanueva for his vision as well as Mr. Teodoro and Coun. JC Delos Reyes.
even former Pres. Erap has a point regarding the economic crisis.
i dont find anythin bout Mr. Aquino beside his "parents" achievements to the Phil History.
Mr. Villar clearly states his "sipag at tyaga" figure as a key for his success and wants to share it to the pinoys... wel helping those OFW's, those unfortunate peeps (poorest of the poor) made a great impact to his candidacy.. but the question is do you really have to tell it to the public? damn tired of those "owe" or "utang na loob" thing. is it just a "diversionary tactic" for us not to focused on his Billion peso scams? his subdivisions are the main cause of floods bcoz of its inadeduate garbage & sewage system... sa ilog npunta ang dumi ng subd nya... tignan nyo ung plan ng mga subd. try to imagine this he's telling in his add that he used to swam on a sea of stinky stuffs then how old is he?

SUMMARY

Introduction
As the youth is considered as the biggest part of voters we have gathered this survey to report the influence of political ads in students' votes for the up-coming Presidential election. Throughout history politicians have used various methods, such as whistle-stop speeches, political advertising and political rallies, to achieve their "primary goal, the winning of votes." However, over the years, politicians have found that it is most advantageous to use political advertising to persuade voters. Political commercials are like miniature movies. As in movies, great care is taken to make certain each detail of production--lighting, editing, music--work together to convey a particular mood. At the movies, we want to enter the world the filmmakers have created, to suspend our disbelief and be caught up in the story. But political ads need to approached more cautiously. They are not fictional stories but expressions of political opinion. Political commercials express their opinion not simply through words. They use music and editing to help convey a mood and reinforce the impression the makers want you to have. Candidates try to focus on issues or image in their commercials. They can choose to make a support or an attack ad to imply what they wanted their viewers to see through them. The peripheral route to persuasion uses superficial cues to persuade its audience. For example, Sen. Manny Villar's "dagat ng basura" ad, this type of ad relies heavily on the type of background music played, characters portrayed within the ad, setting and other theatrics to influence those watching.
This study compared image ads and issue ads in political campaigns. Issue ads focus on current hot button issues with the Pilipino people and image ads centering on a candidate’s character or personality. The effect size for learning was larger for studies of students than non-students; however, the effect size for both sub-groups was significant. Ads also had larger effects on attitudes for non-students than students.Because political advertising, unlike product advertising, must get results in a short period of time, political practitioners use several kinds of political advertising: image, issue and negative advertising. Even when television is used to communicate political truth (at least from one candidate's perspective), the truth can be negatively packaged—attacking the opponent's character and record rather than supporting one's own.

QUEERIES for making a good political ad

1. What are the key messages communicated in each advertisement?
2. Which type of ad was more memorable? Why?
3. Which do you think would be most effective in convincing viewers to vote for (or against) a candidate? 4. Did you learn from the ads? Did they help you to decide which candidate to support?
5. What do all types have in common? Do they provide factual information or do they evoke an emotional response?
6. During which programs do the ads play? What time of the day do you see the most ads?
7. What are the limitations of a 30-second commercial?
8. How important is a candidate’s look in these ads? What type of image are they trying to create?
9. If you were the campaign manager for a candidate in your district, what type of ad would you try to create?

***************
methods used in Pol Ads

BANDWAGON promotes the idea that “everyone is voting for this candidate, so why aren’t you.” The scenes depicted various ethnic groups and the implication was that all Pilipinos are happy with that candidate ex. Sen. Noynoy Aquino's ad

TESTIMONIAL involves having a famous or ordinary person describe why they support the candidate. Ex. Dolphy on Sen. Manny Villar

SCARE TACTICS: The ad tries to frighten you into voting for the candidate (or at least not voting for his/her opponent). Ex. Defense Sec. Gibo Teodoro's "dapat talino" ad.

PLAIN FOLKS involves either showing the candidate with his or her family as a symbol of family values, or the candidate mingling with ordinary people who give their opinion on the candidate. Today the family ad is almost obligatory. Ex. Sen. Manny Villars "nagkabahay ka na ba?" ad.

TRANSFER involves using symbols like the flag, or groups such as veterans, boy scouts and unions, or religious or ethnic gatherings, or music to establish a mood or theme. for example. Mr. Eddie Villanueva's ads

HUMOR usually involves making fun of the opponent. In “The Best Political Advertisements” there is an ad for a politician who does not reside in his district. Ex. Mayor of Pangasinan 3 minute ad

SELF-PROMOTIONAL advertising involves candidate’s visions and goals if elected. Examples of terms used are honest, integrity, stronger Philippines, stronger defense etc. (Classics of Political Advertising). This technique is sometimes called GLITTERING GENERALITIES because it uses terms that sound good, but are not specific. Ex. Richard Gordon's ad

CARDSTACKING: Listing all the great things about a candidate, but none of the weaknesses. Ex. almost all of them
